TRAVEL to and around Coniston: -

By Road Coniston can be approached by 3 main routes, the A593 from Ambleside, the A590/A5092/A593 from the south, and the B5285 from Hawkshead. There is a certain amount of time limited on street parking in the village. The main LDNP carpark is next to the Tourist Information Centre, there is a small car park next to old station site, and other parking is available at the Coniston Sports and Social Club and from time to time at John Ruskin School. There are also LDNP car parks at the main lake shore site and at Monk Coniston, as well as a number of small ones on the east shore of the lake.

By bus Coniston has two scheduled services: -

505 is a daily service to and from Hawkshead, Ambleside and Windermere, where connections can be made to many other places in Cumbria. The X11/12 runs each day except Sunday, via the Lake shore and villages to the south, to Ulverston and Barrow. On Saturdays only, two of its runs continue to Ambleside. The main bus stop is next to the Tourist Information Centre.

By Rail The nearest branch line service is from Windermere to Oxenholme - The Lake District, where connections to the West Coast main line may be made.

There are also a number of taxi firms and there are various companies which run guided minibus tours of the area. Ask at the Centre for details
